Time flies!

Here is the page for Venue 50 at Lakeside Garden Centre in Crockerton. It is a ten-day trail and I will be there the first three days: Saturday 29th & Sunday 30th April and B/hol 1st May, Wednesday 3rd May plus the final Sunday and Monday. There are a couple of other afternoons but do get in touch if you want to know other dates. Of course, my fellow exhibitors will be there to help. Just need the weather to get a grip …

Wylye Valley Art Trail 2023!

The brochures are out and, along with Spring, the tempo has picked up! The excellent art trail is the only extensive showcase of my work, showing mostly cyanotypes but, as always, I develop different ways of using the process and this year is no different. I shall be also displaying my expanding range of handmade books where my love of words and poetry interplay with my use of paper and origami. I shall be at Venue 50 and the full range of information can be found on Wylye Valley Art Trail

The Trail is also sharing the priveledge of being awarded the Queens Award for Voluntary Service, in Her final list of these last year. It is an award that needed royal approval and is equal to a MBE, valid for life. The Wylye Valley Art Trail is the only art trail ever to receive such an accolade. Heavens!

Wylye Valley Art Trail 2019

So focused in the workshop that I am tad late in posting this!

As it is the tenth Trail the 2019 dates are extended to make it ten days: Saturday 18th May – 27th May (Bank Holiday).  Taking up temporary residence at the Lakeside Garden Centre in Crockerton will be myself, Jane Gibson with ceramics and Cath Bloomfield with her textural prints.  The Trail brochures are spreading out so there will be copies nearby and we are Venue 21.  The website will have all the information in any case www.wvat.co.uk

With the cyanotypes I explore the theme of water and also bold plant studies.  The landscapes that started to germinate a couple of years ago are taking on more of an identity as I discover ways of using acrylics which form layers within landscapes, inspired locally and by the raw expanse of Dartmoor.  I am excited to be exhibiting these.

I shall be there both weekends, plus Wednesday 22nd May and the final day Monday 27th May.  Please note the Sunday closing times of 4.30pm at Lakeside.  There is also a new expanded café so you will find us in a different area, on the left as you go in.  Follow the yellow balloons!

The Summer of Art!

Ahead is quite a busy summer.  There is a nice mix over the next few months that might take your fancy to put in the diary.

  • Trowbridge Town Hall Open: 30th June – 2 September, 10am – 4pm.  I have a piece in the Town Hall’s first Open.  A grand building increasingly getting a name for itself as a good creative venue.  www.trowbridgearts.com for info.
  • Romsey Festival InsideOut Art Trail: 2nd July 10am – 4pm.  It’s not far!  The event kicks off the Festival and I am in the Abbey Hall.  It is a once-every-three-years happening with free parking on Sunday.  See www.romseyfestival.org for more info.
  • Black Swan Art Car Boot, Frome: 16th July 10am – 4pm.  Taking place in the Old Cattle Market car park, the Art Car Boot is great fun to do and this will be my third time.  I am bringing along work with special reductions in the renowned Blue Van Gallery.  See www.fromefestival.co.uk for all details.
  • Maiden Bradley Arts Festival: 26th, 27th and 28th August, 10am – 4pm.  For the Bank Holiday weekend, the Village Hall opens its doors to an eclectic range of artists – and I am one of them!  A nice and easy art event to come and enjoy.

Once again I shall be exhibiting at Lakeside Garden Centre in Crockerton, Venue 29, with full details on the excellent website www.wvat.co.uk  It is my seventh Trail!

Cyanotypes created specifically for the Trail include some nursery rhymes developed on some of my grandmother’s handkerchiefs, a few having lace edging made by her.

Sea Fever by John Masefield is a favourite poem that continues to stir me and I have taken lines to produce a series inspired by it.

Finally, I have inherited a quantity of oil paints from my father when he owned an art shop and the showcase of the Trail makes me explore their potential.  Whilst it is not a medium I know well, there will be some new journeys which will be expressive, textured and the results of taking risks!

I will also mention that my cyanotype cards are on sale at Hauser and Wirth, Bruton, Somerset.  I was given the opportunity to use some of the plants from Piet Oudolf’s prairie scheme so the cards have a direct link with this wonderful garden.  I am thrilled to have my work under the same roof as, currently, Elisabeth Frink!

Devizes Christmas Market

I am just doing one event this year and not joining the stampede into Bath – for the first time in five years!  Instead I am participating in the Devizes Christmas Market at the Corn Exchange (next to The Bear Hotel) in the town centre and will be there from 2.30 – 8.30pm on Friday 25th November.  There will also be the wonderful Lantern Festival taking place in the town that evening so you can come into the Market and then witness the amazing visual treats that light up the night!

Finally, dates for your shiny new diaries:  you may like to note that 2017 has the Wylye Valley Art Trail (27th May – 4th June) taking place at my regular venue of the Lakeside Garden Centre in Crockerton.

I shall be at the Friends’ Meeting House, York Street, Bath  BA1 1NG (opposite the Abbey Square), from 10am – 6pm for all three of the Craft Fair dates which are Saturday 28th November and Saturday 5th and 12th December.  This is the fourth year I have been there and it has become a comfortable venue away from the busy streets and stalls that form the outside German Market in central Bath.  We are all individual artists and makers so you are guaranteed to find something different.

I shall have the cyanotype work which has moved on again!  Plus collage landscapes and other paintings.
